Certification Information

CMPC Examination

The Care Management Physician Certification (CMPC) was developed and launched by the Association of Physician Leadership in Care Management in 2021. It is designed specifically for physician advisors and physician leaders in health care delivery system care management.

CMPC was created to address a growing need to educate and credential physicians on care management teams, granting visibility and credibility to the practice. Topics covered on the CMPC examination include utilization management, clinical documentation improvement, care transitions, advocacy and regulatory compliance, medical necessity reviews and denial management, and education of the care management team.

The APLCM Board is the governing body over the CMPC program. The CMPC Policy Manual has been developed by the APLCM Board and these policies are reviewed periodically.

Who can take the CMPC Examination?

The CMPC examination is available to individuals holding a current Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) designation. There is no specific requirement for work experience to sit for the exam, but a minimum of two (2) years of experience as a physician advisor in care management is recommended.

When can I take the CMPC examination?

Candidates may submit their application at any time and test immediately upon receipt of application approval. Testing may be done as quickly as the selected test site has availability for the exam. All applications must be accompanied by full payment of application fees to be considered complete and ready for approval.

Upon receipt of approval, candidates will receive a scheduling notice from APLCM's testing partner and will be directed to schedule their examination with the testing partner via phone or online portal.
